Simon Heffalump’s rant to subs requires further distribution.
Fleet Street Blues has the full monty here.
I had my tuppence-worth in the comments there, though one thing I didn’t mention was my thought that a lot of the subbing mistakes of which he complains are, of course, occasioned by our poor, dear criminal descendants in Australia, to whom the illiterate buffoons at the Telegraph farmed out their “copy subbing.”
Australia is a brave and, despite evidence, honest nation which has struggled for so long and so hard to produce something cultural, but has so far come up with only Clive James, Germaine Greer and Chips Rafferty. No wonder Heff hates them, although he hides it well.
